Speak to the AI assistant instead of typing. Click the microphone icon in the AI chat input, speak your command naturally, and the AI transcribes and executes it. Powered by OpenAI Whisper for reliable, cross-browser voice recognition.
Voice input in the AI chat lets you interact with your CRM entirely hands-free. Whether you are walking back from a meeting, commuting between client visits, or simply prefer speaking over typing, you can create contacts, draft emails, update deals, and search your database using natural spoken language. This guide covers how to use the microphone button, which browsers are supported, tips for getting the best accuracy, and how voice commands integrate with the AI assistant's full capabilities.
How to Use the Microphone Button
Locate and Click the Microphone
In the AI chat input area at the bottom of the chat panel, look for the microphone icon on the right side of the text field. Click or tap the icon to begin recording. The button turns red and a subtle pulsing animation indicates that the microphone is actively capturing audio. On mobile devices, the microphone button is slightly larger for easier tapping.
If this is your first time using voice input, your browser will display a permission prompt asking you to allow microphone access for the SalesSheet domain. Click "Allow" to proceed. This permission is saved by your browser and only needs to be granted once.
Speak Your Command
Speak naturally at a normal conversational pace. You do not need to slow down, over-enunciate, or pause between words. Whisper handles accents, filler words, background noise, and natural pauses with high accuracy. State your complete command in one go for best results. For example, say "Create a new contact Sarah Johnson at TechFlow Inc with email sarah@techflow.com" or "Draft a follow-up email to James about the proposal we discussed yesterday."
There is no strict time limit on a single recording, but for optimal accuracy, keep individual recordings under two minutes. If you need to dictate a longer message, pause the recording and start a new one. The new transcription will append to the existing text in the input field.
Review the Transcription
Click the microphone button again to stop recording. Within one to three seconds, your spoken words appear as text in the AI chat input field. The transcription includes proper punctuation, capitalization, and natural sentence structure. Take a moment to review the text for accuracy, especially proper nouns like contact names and company names, which may occasionally need correction.
You can edit the transcription directly in the text field before sending. Click anywhere in the text to place your cursor, select words to replace, or use standard keyboard shortcuts. If you want to add more content via voice, click the microphone again and the new transcription will be appended at the cursor position.
Send the Command
Press Enter or tap the send button to submit your voice-transcribed command to the AI assistant. The AI processes voice-transcribed text identically to typed text. There is no difference in how the AI interprets or responds to a command based on whether it was typed or spoken. The full range of AI assistant capabilities is available through voice input.
Supported Browsers and Devices
Voice input in SalesSheet works across all modern browsers and devices that support the MediaRecorder API. Specifically, the following browsers are fully supported:
- Google Chrome (desktop and mobile): Version 60 and later. Chrome offers the most consistent microphone handling and is the recommended browser for voice input.
- Mozilla Firefox (desktop and mobile): Version 75 and later.
- Microsoft Edge (desktop): Version 79 and later (Chromium-based versions).
- Safari (desktop and iOS): Version 14.1 and later. On iOS, Safari is the primary browser for voice input since the SalesSheet web app runs in Safari's WebView.
- Android browsers: Chrome for Android and Samsung Internet are fully supported.
Nota
Voice input requires a working microphone connected to your device and browser permission to access it. If you are using a corporate device with restricted browser permissions, contact your IT administrator to enable microphone access for the SalesSheet domain.
What You Can Do with Voice
Every command available through the typed AI chat interface is also available through voice input. Here are the most common voice commands organized by category:
- Create contacts: "Add a new contact named Maria Chen at DataSync Corp" or "Create a contact for David Park, email david@parkdesign.io, phone 555-0147"
- Send emails: "Draft an email to John about the quarterly review" or "Send a follow-up email to Sarah thanking her for the demo"
- Schedule activities: "Schedule a call with Sarah for next Tuesday at 2pm" or "Set a reminder to follow up with Acme Corp on Friday"
- Update deals: "Move the Acme deal to Negotiation stage" or "Update the TechFlow deal value to fifty thousand"
- Search your CRM: "Find all contacts at TechFlow" or "Show me deals closing this month"
- Get summaries: "Summarize my interactions with James at Acme" or "What is the status of the DataSync deal?"
- Add notes: "Add a note to Sarah Johnson: discussed pricing tiers and she wants a follow-up next week"
The AI understands natural language, so you do not need to use exact command syntax. Phrases like "email John," "send a message to John," and "draft an email for John" are all interpreted the same way.
Tips for Better Accuracy
- Use a headset or external microphone. Built-in laptop and phone microphones capture more ambient noise. A headset with a boom microphone provides the clearest audio input.
- Speak in complete sentences. Rather than fragments, give the AI your full intent in one statement. "Create a contact Sarah Johnson at TechFlow email sarah@techflow.com" is better than starting with just "Sarah Johnson" and adding details piecemeal.
- Spell out uncommon names. If Whisper consistently mis-transcribes a specific name, try spelling it out: "S-A-R-A-H J-O-H-N-S-O-N." Alternatively, just correct it in the text field after transcription.
- Reduce background noise. While Whisper handles moderate noise well, conversations happening nearby or loud music will reduce accuracy. Move to a quieter space when possible.
- Dictate numbers clearly. When stating phone numbers, dollar amounts, or dates, speak each digit or word distinctly. "Five five five, zero one four seven" is more reliably transcribed than rapid-fire numbers.
How Voice Input Integrates with AI Chat
Voice input is not a separate feature from the AI chat -- it is simply an alternative input method. When you speak a command, it is transcribed to text and then processed by the same AI engine that handles typed commands. This means all AI features work seamlessly with voice, including multi-step conversations. You can start a conversation by typing, continue it with voice, and switch back to typing at any point. The AI maintains the full conversation context regardless of input method.
Voice input also works with the AI's confirmation flow. When the AI asks a clarifying question (such as "Which John do you mean?"), you can respond by voice. Click the microphone, say "The one at Acme Corp," and the AI continues the conversation with your voice-transcribed answer.
Consejo Pro
Voice input is hands-free CRM -- perfect for dictating meeting notes while walking back from a conference room, or updating deal stages while commuting between client visits. Many sales reps find that dictating a quick deal update immediately after a call takes just ten seconds and saves them from forgetting critical details later in the day.
Solución de Problemas
The microphone button is missing or grayed out.
Verify that your browser has permission to access your microphone. In Chrome, click the lock icon in the address bar and set Microphone to "Allow." In Safari, check Settings > Websites > Microphone. If you are on a corporate device, your IT administrator may need to whitelist microphone access for the SalesSheet domain. After changing permissions, refresh the page.
The transcription is inaccurate or misses words.
Check your microphone hardware. Built-in laptop microphones often produce lower-quality audio. Try a headset or external microphone. Also ensure the correct input device is selected in your operating system's sound settings, especially if you have multiple microphones connected. Speak at a normal pace and minimize background noise for best results.
Recording stops immediately after clicking the microphone.
This usually indicates a microphone permission issue. Your browser may have blocked microphone access. Check the browser's site settings and ensure SalesSheet is allowed to access the microphone. On iOS Safari, go to Settings > Safari > Microphone and set it to "Allow."
