The Trade Show Problem

You just walked out of a SaaS conference with 74 business cards stuffed into your badge lanyard pocket. Some are from genuine prospects who watched your demo and asked pricing questions. Some are from people who grabbed your card while passing by and handed theirs back out of politeness. You cannot remember which is which, and by tomorrow morning the context that separates a hot lead from a cold one will be gone entirely.

You sit down at the hotel lobby, open your laptop, and start typing contacts into your CRM. First name, last name, company, title, email. That is five fields per card. At 74 cards, you are looking at 370 manual entries before you even get to adding notes about what you discussed. Most salespeople abandon this process around card number 15 and promise themselves they will finish on the flight home. They never do.

The average sales rep spends 5.5 hours per week on manual data entry. Contact enrichment eliminates 80% of that by filling in what you should never have to type.

SalesSheet's 3-layer enrichment system was built to solve exactly this problem. You give it the minimum viable information about a contact, an email address or even just a name and company, and it fills in everything else automatically. Not with guesses. With verified data pulled from three distinct layers, each one adding depth that the previous layer cannot reach.

Layer 0: Instant Profile from Email

Layer 0 fires the moment you create a contact. You type an email address, or our email sync picks one up from an incoming message, and SalesSheet immediately resolves what it can from the email domain alone. A corporate email like jane@acmecorp.com tells us the company name, website, and often the industry vertical. We pull the company's logo, employee count range, and headquarters location from public business registries.

Layer 0 also checks for a Gravatar profile linked to the email, which gives us a photo and sometimes a brief bio. For corporate domains, we resolve the MX records to determine what email provider the company uses, which is a surprisingly useful signal for company size and technical sophistication. A company on Google Workspace with a custom domain is a different prospect than one on a shared hosting email server.

What Layer 0 typically fills in

Layer 0 completes in under 2 seconds and costs zero enrichment credits. It runs on every contact, every time, on every plan including Free.

Layer 1: Social and Professional Data

Layer 1 activates 5 seconds after Layer 0 completes. It takes the information from Layer 0 and uses it to search for the contact's professional presence across LinkedIn, Twitter/X, GitHub, and other public professional networks. This is where we fill in job title, department, seniority level, work history, education, and skill tags.

The matching algorithm uses a combination of name, email domain, and company to find the right profile. We have a confidence threshold to prevent false matches. If the name "John Smith" appears at "acmecorp.com" and there are three John Smiths on LinkedIn who list Acme Corp as their employer, we flag it as ambiguous and show you the top candidates to pick from rather than guessing wrong. False enrichment is worse than no enrichment because it creates a false sense of knowledge that leads to embarrassing outreach mistakes.

What Layer 1 adds

Layer 1 uses 1 enrichment credit per contact. On the Free plan, you get 50 credits per month. Pro gives you 500, and Team gives you 2,000. Unused credits do not roll over, which keeps our data provider costs predictable.

Layer 2: Deep Intelligence

Layer 2 is where SalesSheet goes beyond what any manual research could accomplish in a reasonable amount of time. It takes the enriched contact profile and runs it through our AI engine to generate actionable intelligence. This includes company funding history, recent press mentions, technology stack signals, hiring patterns that indicate growth or contraction, and estimated budget ranges based on company size and industry benchmarks.

Layer 2 also generates a conversation starter: a one-paragraph briefing you can read in 10 seconds before a call that gives you something specific and relevant to mention. "I noticed Acme Corp just opened a new office in Austin and is hiring three enterprise sales reps. Sounds like you're scaling the sales org" is infinitely better than "So, tell me about your business."

What Layer 2 generates

Layer 2 uses 3 enrichment credits per contact and runs only when you explicitly request it or when an automation triggers it. It is designed for the contacts that matter most, not for bulk enrichment of your entire database. You might run Layer 2 on the 20 hottest leads from that trade show, not on all 74.

The Enrichment Score Formula

Every contact in SalesSheet has an enrichment score from 0 to 100 that tells you how complete its profile is. The formula weights each field by its sales utility:

Enrichment Score = (Layer 0 fields x 2) + (Layer 1 fields x 5) + (Layer 2 fields x 8) + (manual notes x 3), capped at 100.

A contact with just an email address scores around 12. After Layer 0 completes, it jumps to 25-35. Layer 1 brings it to 55-70. Layer 2 pushes it to 80-95. Adding your own notes from a conversation can push it to 100. The enrichment score appears as a colored ring around the contact's avatar throughout the app, so you can instantly see which contacts are well-understood and which are still thin.

The score also feeds into SalesSheet's analytics dashboards. You can track your team's average enrichment score over time, which is a leading indicator of outreach quality. Teams with an average score above 60 consistently see higher email reply rates and shorter sales cycles because they are reaching out with context instead of cold.

Credits by Plan

Enrichment credits reset monthly. Here is what each plan includes:

  1. Free plan - 50 credits/month. Enough for Layer 0 (unlimited) plus Layer 1 on your 50 most important contacts. Layer 2 is available but eats credits fast at 3 per contact.
  2. Pro plan ($29/mo) - 500 credits/month. Comfortable for a solo rep handling 80-100 new contacts per month with selective Layer 2 enrichment on top prospects.
  3. Team plan ($79/mo per seat) - 2,000 credits/month per seat. Built for teams that run high-volume outbound and want Layer 2 intelligence on every qualified lead.

You can monitor your credit usage in real time from the Settings page. SalesSheet sends a notification when you hit 80% of your monthly allocation so you can prioritize which remaining contacts deserve enrichment. If you run out, Layer 0 still works on every new contact. You just cannot trigger Layer 1 or Layer 2 until credits reset.

Back to the Trade Show

Remember those 74 business cards? Here is the SalesSheet workflow. You snap a photo of each card with the mobile app. Our OCR extracts the name and email. Layer 0 fires immediately on all 74, filling in company details in seconds. You then select the 30 contacts you remember having real conversations with and trigger Layer 1 in bulk, using 30 credits. On the five hottest prospects, the ones who asked about pricing, you run Layer 2 for 15 credits. Total time: 12 minutes. Total credits used: 45. Total fields manually typed: zero.

The next morning, you open your laptop to find 74 fully enriched contacts with company logos, job titles, LinkedIn URLs, and AI-generated conversation starters for your top five. Your competitors from that same trade show are still typing names from business cards into a spreadsheet. That is the difference enrichment makes.
